This 3-day desert tour from Marrakech to Fes follows the classic Sahara route without rushing. We pick you up from your riad/hotel in Marrakech (or Marrakech Menara Airport) and drive south across the High Atlas with scenic stops and time to visit Ait Ben Haddou. You spend the first night in the Dades Valley, which keeps the driving manageable and gives you a proper start before the desert. On day two, we continue via Todra Gorge and arrive in Merzouga in the afternoon. You meet the camel team and ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes for sunset, then spend the night in a desert camp (dinner included). Day three starts with sunrise, then we drive north through the Ziz Valley, Midelt, and the Middle Atlas—often stopping briefly in Ifrane—before dropping you off at your accommodation in Fes in the evening. Practical note: your luggage goes to the camp by car, and if you’d rather skip the camels, we can arrange a 4×4 transfer instead.

After breakfast, you leave the Dades area and travel toward Tinghir for a stop at Todra Gorge, one of the most impressive canyon walks in southern Morocco. You’ll have time to stretch your legs, take photos between the high rock walls, and enjoy the river-side views. From here, the route continues toward the desert through arid landscapes and oasis towns, passing Erfoud (famous for fossils and date products) and Rissani (traditional market town and gateway to the Sahara). In the afternoon, you arrive in Merzouga, at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Late afternoon is the highlight: you meet the camel team and take a sunset camel ride in Merzouga into the dunes (or choose a 4×4 transfer if you prefer). You travel through the palm groves and viewpoints of the Ziz Valley, one of Morocco’s most scenic oasis routes, then continue toward Midelt (often a good lunch stop). From there you cross the Middle Atlas Mountains, where the scenery changes again—cedar forests, fresh air, and mountain towns. Many tours stop around Azrou (cedar forest area) and Ifrane, known for its alpine-style architecture, before arriving in Fes for evening drop-off at your riad/hotel. This route covers a lot of ground in three days: about 320 km (6–7 hours) on Day 1, about 300 km (5–6 hours) on Day 2 and about 470 km (around 8 hours) on Day 3 from Merzouga to Fes, which is the longest day. Times are approximate and change with traffic, weather, meal stops, sightseeing and breaks. If you prefer a slower pace, the 4-day Marrakech tours split the drive over more days.

The route runs all year. Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) usually bring the most comfortable temperatures for long drives and the desert. Summer days in Merzouga can be very hot, so sunset and sunrise are the best times on the dunes. In winter, nights in the desert and the Atlas can be cold, and snow can occasionally affect the mountain passes.
